About the Enderby Area Community Hub Building

"Where history lives and community thrives"

The Enderby Area Community Hub is honouring the heritage of St. Andrew's United Church by repurposing the building into a secular, non-profit community centre for community gathering, social services, educational, recreational, cultural and arts experiences, business incubation, private gatherings/celebrations, and both secular & religious events - functions that build our community connections.

St. Andrew's is the second oldest commercial/institutional building in our small city, and as old as Enderby itself. Built with bricks from Enderby's own brickyard in 1906, the building has been well maintained by almost 120 years of loyal congregations. In total, the building offers 7400 square feet over two floors (3700 square feet per floor), suitable for a variety of rental needs.

The Main Level of the building is about 5 feet above ground level and is accessed via an internal set of stairs, 2 external stairs (into The Sanctuary), a dedicated external stair fire escape and an elevator lift. This level features St. Andrew's Hall (aka the Sanctuary) and the Annex Multi-Purpose Space.

The Lower Level of the building is about 5 feet below ground level and is accessed via an internal set of stairs, 3 external fire escape stairs as well as an elevator lift. This level features the Lower Hall Gathering & Dining Room, the Kitchen and several offices/smaller gathering rooms.

St. Andrew's Hall (aka The Sanctuary):
The original religious service space continues to work for the original purpose, but also lends itself well to secular celebrations, arts & cultural performance and gatherings of all types.
This 2400 square foot space includes an 30" high altar/stage with a 14' X 10' deep alcove plus an 6'4" apron that is 25' wide and stairs that are 3' deep with 1' high risers.

Seating up to 150 people in pews (120-130 in stacking chairs we estimate), the space is ideal for celebrations and performances of all types, religious and secular gatherings, weddings, arts & cultural presentations and gatherings of all types. Without chairs, it would also be a great venue for exercise and recreational classes or an amazing venue for a banquet. The space is greatly enhanced by the large windows and great natural light. The true highlight of the Sanctuary though is the exceptional acoustics, which offers a moving musical experience for both performers and audiences. The plan is to reconfigure the pews to put 2 of the 12 foot straight pews along each side wall along with the existing long back pew. Otherwise seating would be left to stacking chairs, as needed.

The Annex Multi-Purpose Room:
This large room (750 square foot - 24' X 31') behind the stage is currently used the Enderby and District Community Resource Centre for a children’s play group, but is also ideal for activities like yoga & exercise classes, a classroom or other gathering space, a rehearsal space or as a green room for Sanctuary performances.

The Social Hall:
Adjacent to the kitchen on the lower level, the social space is ideal for community meals, meetings and gatherings up to 120 people. This includes access to tables and chairs that can be configured for dinners or meetings.

The Kitchen:
The upgraded kitchen includes two ranges/stoves, a microwave, a refrigerator, two sets of sinks, a dish sanitizer and full selection of pots, pans, etc. Available for private rentals. In the past it has been used to host community dinners, teas, cooking classes, catered meals prepared elsewhere, etc.

Offices/Smaller Gathering Rooms:
Ideal for both short- and longer-term rentals, the three offices are approximately 9x 12ft each.

There is particular enthusiasm for the 2400 square foot sanctuary space since there is no dedicated theatre/performance space in Enderby (AL Fortune SS is not really accessible to non-school users). The sanctuary, which has phenomenal acoustics, would be renovated first with a new floor and to remove most of the pews in favour of stackable chairs to make the space so much more rentable and flexible. Pew capacity is currently in the range of 120-150 persons.
